Your Nokia mobile could save your life Updated:Wed, 14 May 2008 12:59:25 Sky news recently posted on their website a news story that comes straight out of a TV scenario. An emergency text message saved the life of one man when he sent it from a remote part of the highlands in Scotland. This was to spark an international rescue scenario that resembled a script from the popular children’s TV show “The Thunderbirds”
While of course all mobile phones these days support text messaging, lets take a look at the Nokia 3100 mobile phone. Of course as the majority of Nokia mobiles run on the popular S60 software which allows you to use a wide variety of software on the phone, one of which is Nokia maps which when used in conjunction with a GPRS connection you are able to pinpoint your exact position on the map. Extremely useful when finding yourself injured out in the highlands.
The Nokia 3100 also has many features besides giving you the ability to text and find your position. Not to make light of the situation but this is one phone that would come in very handy if you did get lost in the dark as the phone actually glows in the dark. At only 85g the phone is light enough to carry around. One of the let downs is the relatively small screen size of only 128 x 128 pixels, however if you are not going to be spending a lot of time surfing the web then it is adequate and displays text very well. One big let down is the lack of memory, however the phone does support the popular MicroSD memory card and you will need it as this mobile is no exception when it comes to a lack of memory.
This phone does have an excellent keypad and lets face it this is important when it comes to pushing those digits when dialling numbers and almost certainly when it comes to texting. This model is sold as an entry level phone which means it is affordable to all. It has an excellent handsfree speaker and the battery life is also excellent which means it lasts when out and about. The phone is let down by not having a camera but then if don’t take many photos then this will not be missed. However you can choose to buy an additional camera if you simply cannot do without one and just add this onto the phone when needed. However, if considering the phone then remember to buy additional memory by way of MicroSD memory card for storage because you will need it.
