Royal watchers have their cameras at the ready Updated:Tue, 06 May 2008 15:45:31 If you were among one of the hundreds of “Royal watchers” that lined the streets to see Prince Harry and fellow soldiers march by on their way to receiving their first campaign medals, then hopefully you remembered to check the SDcard memory of your device to ensure you had plenty of room to capture the shots. Running out of memory for your device as he marched directly in front of you would have been disastrous and would of course have ruined your day and the chance to capture a great event.
SD memory cards, MicroSD memory cards and Mini SD memory cards are used to store the media you take on your mobile phone and digital camera such as photos and videos. They are often not given much thought but are one of the most important parts of your camera and phone. The majority of camera and phones come with very little internal memory and as some of the latest mobile phones come with at 5 megapixel camera and with digital cameras up to 12 megapixels, they take great photos, but large ones. This means that SDcard memory is essential and you should check on a regular basis how much memory your device has left.
Better yet buy more than one SDcard, Mini SD card or MicroSD card. Some of the latest mobile phones are what are called “hot swappable” this means that the slot for the SD memory card is located in a place on the device for easy access and you do not have to switch the battery off to replace the card. Simply open the slot, remove the SD memory card and replace it with the new one and the phone should automatically pick it up.
Of course when choosing your SD memory card you have to ensure that you match it with your specific device. Some phones will also only take up to a certain amount of memory, while your phone might take an SD memory card for storage and some cards go up to 8GB this doesn’t mean your phone will happily accept such a large amount of memory. You can in the handbook of your device or on the manufacturers website and this will tell you which of the SD memory cards your device will take and also the amount of memory you are able to go up too. You also need to check to ensure your device is “hot swappable” some mobile phones have the SD memory card slot located underneath the battery which means you have to switch off the phone and remove the battery before you are able to swap your SD memory card.
